What are the links between biodiversity conservation and nature tourism in protected areas (PAs)? To reflect on this topic, this issue of Parques&Sociedade brings a study that analyzes this interface and performs a worldwide investigation of how some characteristics of PAs, such as their size and proximity to urban centers, as well as aspects of their surroundings, can exert an influence on how attractive tourism in these areas is. Based on the categorization of biodiversity and nature tourism indicators identified in the PAs investigated, the article sheds light on aspects that can help management teams create strategies to attract more visitors to these spaces.
