Nature Within Everyone’s Reach: Accessibility guide on conservation units

2021

Speaking about the inclusion of people with disabilities refers to a movement full of struggles, achievements, and characters trying to make society a place with conditions for equal access and opportunities for everyone. However, the right to nature is not always forethought in this debate. Transforming Brazil’s parks and conservation units into accessible spaces is a key step towards advancing this agenda in the country. Thus, broad work must be done to raise awareness, disseminate good practices, and share solutions. That is precisely the main objective of this paper, which presents recommendations for eliminating access barriers in parks and Cus and introduces basic concepts, standards, and legislation on accessibility.
